Consider Shutterfly for your Yearbook orders

I was contacted by a representative at Shutterfly/Tiny Prints to talk about their Yearbook options and they are quite unique.  I personally have used both Shutterfly and Tiny Prints in the past and have been more impressed with the quality of their products than some of the other photobook sites out there.

I never would have thought to order through shutterfly for a yearbook until I was contacted and researched their site.  It looks very cool and probably more affordable than most schools pay through other major companies.  I do not know what a regular yearbook costs but I would imagine its more than $5 a book.

Shutterfly offers several options for layouts and they make it affordable too, as low as $5 per book and you can save up to 75% when you order for your whole class or school.  The layouts can be traditional or more like a scrapbook layout.  See below some of the options:

Product Review: Shrinxhips

Product Review: SHRINKXHIPS

Disclaimer: I was not compensated for reviewing this product in any way

I purchased the SHRINKXHIPS during a moment of weakness while shopping at a Motherhood store about halfway through my last pregnancy.  I was feeling super fat and not so attractive and thought this product would be worth the $34.98 that I paid for it.  I think I actually paid less there than I’ve seen advertised other places.  The product claims that you can “get back your pre-pregnancy hips (or smaller)” if you use the product regularly within the first 8 weeks after delivery while the hormone Relaxin is present and before your pelvic joints and ligaments harden in place.  The product claims “ Shrinkxhips provides constant, even pressure to gently guide your hips back to their pre-pregnancy position (or even smaller).”  The one-size states that it fits hips measuring between 31” to 50” and easily adjusts to smaller size as your hips narrow.  The product recommends wearing the belt for 4-6 hours daily.  It also claims that there was a clinical test trial done to prove the effectiveness…

My experience:

I started wearing this belt regularly (daily for at least 4 hours per day) at one week post-partum and continued wearing it until 7 weeks post-partum.  I did check with my chiropractor who told me that it would not hurt me to wear it and it could only help.  He explained that it’s kind of like a band aid helping the joints go back more quickly.  It made sense.  Unfortunately my hips only shrunk by a half inch in this time frame. I’m sorely disappointed in the product mostly because I had envisioned myself much smaller by this time.  I did like the fact that I felt like I had more lower back support when I was wearing it so that’s a positive.  It also adjusted easily as stated on the packaging.  I made sure to wear a nursing tank to avoid the scratchiness of the Velcro on the belt.  It also felt as though it was squeezing my hips together, but unfortunately it didn’t take for me.

Verdict: I would not recommend based on my experience.  I believe I would have lost a half inch on my waist without the belt during the first 8 weeks post-partum.  Unfortunately I haven’t lost much more than that.

Ava’s Bedroom Redecorated

Im sure everyone has seen the wall art that comes in tubes that you just stick on the wall to create a masterpiece in minutes.  Have you ever wondered if it’s really that easy and if it will actually look good on your walls?  Well, I found an awesome Etsy shop that has various options to create a small scene or a very large scene on your walls and I was very impressed.  I did this a few years ago before my first daughter was born.  I had an obsession with Circles so I purchesed the “Confetti Wall Graffic Set” from Michelle & Christina Art & Design on Etsy for $68.  I received 84 decals and I was able to choose up to 6 colors.  This is my creation:

So, my sweet little daughter decided she doesnt like the circles anymore and “Mommy, please take them off” so she could go to sleep in her own room.  Completely different story but she decided she wouldnt sleep in her own room after baby #2 arrived.  Now that we are slowly making the transition back into her room, she is redecorating.  I bought the new stickers from Kohls and they came in a tube with enought stickers to create a tree design over an area above my daughter’s queen size bed.  I didnt measure but it would make a nice centerpiece in a giant headboard if she had one.   I got these on sale for $9 on clearance but I believe designs around this size run between $20 and $30.  Here is the new design:

I do love Michelle & Christina’s unique designs and would highly recommend that you check their etsy store before settling for the generic patterns that are sold in almost every super store.  I was not solicited to write this article and was not compensated in any way.  I merely wanted to display the changes I made to my daughter’s room.  We kept the circles over the rocking chair where the new baby’s crib now resides and over the doorway 🙂

Discovery Toys Giveaway: gLOVE

CONTEST OVER: CONGRATULATIONS TO ROBYN PULVER!!! YOU WON THE gLOVE PUPPET!!

I have recently been introduced to Discovery Toys within the past year through my daughter’s play group.  I also hosted a party for her earlier this year and scored some major loot with only about 5 guests attending.  I think I got about $60 in free product.  At first, I have to admit I thought I could find similar toys in the stores with the same purpose but I was very mistaken.  After learning about the different uses for each product, I realized how valuable the toys and games were.  Especially the fact that they are made so much better than the comparable products you can find on the store shelves, plus the product guarantee is amazing.  I love the Animal Lullabies book and CD set for my daughter.  She also has the Sunshine Farm that has occupied our living room for the past couple months.  While the book parties are great for quick and easy ordering, I personally believe you learn more about each product’s potential and different ways to use them throughout many age groups when you have a party…just my opinion…  Please enter to win the following item:

gLOVE Story Puppet:
This five-in-one soft glove puppet provides little ones with a “hands-on” sensory experience that builds language and motor skills. Includes an Activity Guide with tips for storytelling and sing-alongs. Machine washable.

Prefense Review

I recently had the opportunity to try a new alcohol free hand sanitizer called Prefense.

Disclosure: I did receive a free 1.5 oz size hand sanitizer to try. I was not compensated in any other way.  This is my opinion of the product.

What the company wants you to know: Prefense is a Silica Based Hand Sanitizer that smooths, softens, and protects.  It is effective for up to 24 hours and active through 10 hand washings!  This product is safe for adults and children.  This products has a patented formula that adheres to skin forming a proactive antibacterial barrier, wet or dry.  It contains moisturizing silica complex with soothing organic botanicals to prevent drying, redness and chapping.  It has been tested against strains of Staphylococcus aureus including drug resistant MRSA strains.  Has an easy, rapid, foam application.  It is colorless and invisible on application; will not stain skin or clothing.

Other sanitizers more often than not are alcohol based, only lasts for seconds, can be toxic and flammable (not safe for kids), washes off easily, and dries out the skin.

My  Opinion!:  It took me awhile to actually use the product because I kept forgetting to use it.  I also have a lot of experience using hand sanitizer in the hospital which does in fact dry out my hands so I think psychologically I blocked my intentions of wanting to use the product without realizing it.  So, I was traveling for business this past week and was in and out of the car, eating on the road and of course pumping gas regularly.  I hate the thought of eating right after pumping gas so I gave the hand sanitizer a whirl.  It is fantastic! The foam was light and airy, it was not sticky, it absorbed quickly into the skin.  My hands felt clean.  There was minimal scent which was great.  The light scent that it did have dissappeared quickly.  I love it and I love the fact that it lasts for 24 hours because there are times when I am on the road for up to 5 hours and rarely get out to wash my hands.  Its great to know that I can use the product and not contaminate my stearing wheel, seat belt, beverage, or any other item I may touch in the car.  Im definitely keeping this in my purse from now on. I have no reservations about using this product.

You can check out their website at www.prefense.com

If you sign up to receive emails you will be notified of free samples when available.  Currently they are offering a drawing for free hand sanitizer wipes.

Consider Tiny Prints for your Graduation Announcements

I am excited to say that I will be attending my own graduation next week!  I will be graduating with my Master’s Degree in Social Work and this has been a long-awaited victory/accomplishment.  Over the last 3 years, I have learned so much about my field of study, the world we live in, and most importantly myself.  I remember during the first semester, a very wise professor told us that as a  cohort (then approx. 40 students, now approx. 17 left), we would go through significant life events together  but it is the most accurate statement anyone could have made.  I expected to show up to class once a week and learn about theory.  While, I did in fact do that, there was so much more to this experience.  We have experienced births (8 to be exact – I think), a handful of divorces, a couple of marriages, death of a spouse, supported a member with a cancer diagnosis (and she is in REMISSION!), and I’m sure at one point in time all of us have sought some form of counseling for ourselves.  We embarked on a journey that most of us never imagined but it has brought me so much pride and many new friendships.  Remembering previous graduations, they didn’t really seem this “big”, this time, I feel like I actually accomplished something out of reach.  With my high school diploma it was a breeze.  With my bachelor program, I felt a huge sense of relief to have finished a four-year degree while working more than one job but I always knew that I would seek a higher degree so I wasn’t actually done yet.  Now, I feel that I have come to the finish line.  Best of all, I just got offered a fantastic position working for the state! After two years of unemployment, I feel like everything is coming together.  What a great reason to celebrate! And, what a great reason to send out announcements for all of these accomplishments.  Check out Tiny Prints for your printing needs:

Handmade Crocheted Small Dog sweater plus pattern Giveaway!

Congratulations Jenn! You won this Giveaway.  You will be contacted by email and have 48 hours to respond.

Diego’s V-Stitch Sweater Pattern and Sweater Giveaway!
materials needed: crochet hook 5.00, 4oz worsted yarn
stitch marker (I use a small bobby pin)
skill level: beginner

This doggie sweater is designed to fit small dogs. My chihuahua Diego, weighs 5 lbs.
This is a cute airy sweater, perfect for early spring/fall weather when it’s not too cold, but you still want your doggie to keep warm.
The V-Stitch pattern makes the sweater breathable.
The underside of the sweater has two small holes for the front legs,
and finishes off at around the belly area.
The back of the sweater is a bit longer than the underside,
this way the puppy’s back is warm,
yet his underbelly has room to breathe and won’t get dirty when he uses the bathroom.

Naida generously gave me this pattern which is one of her originals.  I am so excited that she offered to provide the pattern to one of my readers.  I will be making this sweater to give with the pattern.  The yarn color used will be a cornflower blue – more on the blue side.  It took me about 1 hour and 15 minutes from start to finish.  Including attempting to try it on my animals – cat and dog…neither worked out well. My dog is 11 lbs so this was a tad small.

Mandatory Entry: Go to Naida’s Etsy shop and tell me what your favorite item is.

Additional Entries: 1 additional entry for each fulfilled

This Giveaway will end promptly at Midnight on May 1st, 2011 EST

Entries will be randomly drawn.  Good Luck!  Winner will be posted on blog and contacted through email.  Winner must reply within 48 hours with address or will forfiet prize to runner up.  Thank you all for participating.
